Weather Insurance FAQs
What is the coverage territory of this policy?
The geographic limitation of almost any insurance contract is described by its policy territory. The territory of this particular policy is the USA, its territories and possessions, Puerto Rico and Canada. There is no reporting requirement as to where an event is to take place, provided it is within the definition of the policy territory.
What types of weather can you protect against?
We offer coverage for rain and snow. Coverage is for a selected three or six hour period on the day of the event. We currently offer coverage nationwide.
What are the Rain & Snow definitions?
Incremental Accumulation: The total measured rainfall a recorded during the insured hours.
Rain: Liquid water droplets falling from clouds.
Snow: A falling mass of ice crystals that covers the ground with a white blanket. It may be dry and powdery or wet and sticky.
Where is the weather measured?
All rainfall and snow is measured through local Weather Stations. A Weather Station is an active government-controlled site that records rainfall to the nearest 1/100” on an hourly basis and records snowfall to the nearest 1/10” on a daily basis. Most of the weather stations that provide data to RV Nuccio & Associates are at airports, but some are located at parks, university campuses, or military bases.
How Much is X Amount of Rain?
1/100” is the least amount of measurable accumulation. This amount slightly wets a surface area but does not create puddles.
1/100” is a light shower for 2 to 5 minutes or a drizzle for two hours.
1/10” is a light rain for 30 to 40 minutes, moderate rain for 10 minutes, or a heavy rain for 5 minutes. Small puddles are formed but will quickly disappear.
1/4” is a light rain for 2 to 3 hours, moderate rain for 30 to 60 minutes, or a heavy rain for 15 minutes forming many puddles that do not disappear quickly.
1/2” is moderate rain for 1 to 2 hours or heavy rain for 30 to 45 minutes forming deep standing puddles that remain for a long period of time.
How early in advance of my coverage start date can I purchase coverage?

How do I file a claim?
RV Nuccio & Associates is here to make your claims process easy. All claims will be calculated from data observed at the weather station closest to the zip code you entered when you purchased a policy. Most measurements are taken over the twenty four hour period starting at midnight of each day at the weather station. There are two weather measurements on which you can base the weather index of a contract: Precipitation and Snowfall.
